I saw a tweet from someone I follow – talking about these photographs – have to share… The letterpress shop – Green Boathouse Press – is spectacular of course – so intimate and clearly cared for and loved… But the photographs are absolutely stunning!
I have temporary custody of a friend’s wonderful collage – so much hand-made love…
In Catherine Slye’s words:
Each piece started as a photograph that I took. Then I took tracing paper over the photos that I printed at 8 x 11. Using pencil I traced what I thought needed tracing. Then I took the tracings and put them into my copier and reduced them down to less than 40 % and printed them onto quilting paper. From there each small rendition of the photo was then placed with others that made visual sense. Creating new vistas that do not exist in reality. Then I stitched them using my sewing machine onto fabric that I had hand colored using monotype ink. Then I colored them using a selected color palette that I used for all of them. I made a series of ten on phoenix. I had them framed by a husband and wife shop in tucson. We came up with the frame design together.[slideshow]
Woodcut prints are incredible – I have no idea how these folks do this. The amount of patience it must take! Tugboat Printshop does some of the best work I have ever seen… This print of Big Bad Wolf is unbelievable. What makes it even better is this “play by play” on their Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tugboatprintshop/sets/72157625912371876/
Our friend and artist Christina Scherer will be showing her art, letterpress cards (we printed them for her) and OUR cards up at the NAU Mountain Campus Holiday Arts & Crafts Fair on Nov 19 and 20. We are very excited for her. Wish we could be there in person – but we have too much going on to be gone for three days. Her avian art is so sweet and she has several new pieces – be sure to look her up if you head North for the weekend.
TED x Phoenix is tomorrow – really looking forward to a good group of speakers and hope to meet some Phoenix “Optimists & Catalysts” – Kimber Lanning will be there – local hero and also Jay Rogers, Bob Grossfeld, Pamela Slim and a bunch more!
Google Reader – a fabulous thing. But – what was I thinking? Keeping up with Social Media, websites, blogs, Etsy, Flickr, Linkedin….etc. can be exhausting – so I am taking action. This weekend I am going to eliminate half of the 115 blogs I follow on Reader. It will be tough but necessary!
I need more time for printing and working to get my Gallery in shape for the fabulous Fall season in downtown Phoenix. This weekend is the weekend to get a bit organized, manage my online presence and read a good book.
