Another First Friday – Tonight our featured artist Christina Scherer  (

Christina says:

I enjoy the rich color and textures you can create with oils. Songbirds are common subjects of mine, but I also enjoy painting nature and wildlife scenes. Much of my inspiration comes from the Impressionism. Cezanne, Degas, Anders Zorn and Bruno Liljefors are some of my favorite painters.

Her new oil is “Splashing the Party” – there is a little red bird that you will want to take home….

This First Friday we will be featuring Phoenix artist Kristine Brambilla. From 7-9 we will have an artist reception with beverage and snacks. Drop by to meet the artist and view her dynamic work,

Artist’s Statement:

Some of the ideas I work with in my art are layers, contained chaos, simplicity, the abstract, landscape, color usage, and working with opposites.

I work with the medium that best suits the idea I have. This has included mixed media, oil on canvas, photography, sculpture, and public participation pieces. I am known to work with hand-collected pigments/sands, found objects, and different paints, and/or drawing processes.

I graduated from ASU Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Painting, but I find that the more time passes the more I see that it didn’t matter where I studied, but just that I continued to make art.

Saturday 11.20.2010

Well, it has been pretty busy at the shop.  We have three new holiday cards. One is a card by our friend and artist Christina Scherer.  The other two are simple blue cards – one with snowflakes and one with  a Winterberry branch.

Sunday 10.24.2010

Today was  a fabulous day at gallery HAZEL.  I had new glass panels put in next to my new(ish) front door.  They look wonderful. The original door and side lights (pic on left) were believe-it-or-not totally opaque plastic. They were so thin that they would move in a breeze. I got another door – second hand and now I have new side windows (pic on right).  Also fixed the panels under the windows and got rid of a what-were-you-thinking 1957 window ac unit that was on the bottom. Next weekend the bars will be gone out front and I can start thinking about paint for the door and window frames – Orange??

Sunday 10.10.2010

We did our first Market/Fair/Artwalk thing last night.  Was nervous at first – but it really took off and we were quite busy.  Met lots of great people and made some sales on top of it.  Definitely worth the time and will try to do more this season.

I got there early and a friend helped me set up the booth, lights, tables, etc.  I got all the product and fixtures out then…..called Beverly – “get here quick so you can merchandise the tables”. I am completely unable to do it – so sad.  She got there and saved the day.

Everyone asked what our press was like – so next time we will take a picture of ‘Beauty’ with us.

Next time I am determined to get some nice photos… this time I barely had time to get a couple shots.
